Documente inedite privind călătoria lui Theodor Mommsen în Transilvania pentru studierea inscrpţiilor romane din Dacia

  • Subiect: Recently, there have been discovered five rare documents about the German professor Theodor Mommsen who was preoccupied with studying the old Transylvanian inscriptions. They also refer to his relationships with other Transylvanian scientists. These documents are to be found in the State Archives in Sibiu. The first of these documents is a letter written by the archeologist Michael John Ackner, dated September 1858, and which he sent to the famous scholar of the time Georg Daniel Teutsch. In it, he relates about the great historian's travel through Transylvania, in 1857, meant to complete his studies. The other four documents are letters sent between 1858 and 1866 by Professor Mommsen to G.D. Teutsch. They refer to the old Latin inscriptions discovered in Transylvania and to his collaboration with other Transylvanian scientists.
