Aspecte privind managementul informaţiei arheologice: organizarea arhivelor arheologice (i)

  • Subiect: The need for organizing the archaeological archives appeared - both in Romania and in Western Europe - following the increase in the research activities and, consequently, in the number of archaeological data. Far from being considered just a final storage place for information, archaeological archives are seen as a stage of the cycle of information gathering and reuse. A well-organized archive, apart from preserving data, provides the basis for further research and allows quick access to information, both for specialists and for the general public. However, the methods used for information recording and management in Romania are much behind the standards used in Western Europe, where the first guides and procedures were adopted more than 10 years ago. Therefore, it is very important to settle the bases for organizing coherent and functional archives in the Romanian archaeology as well. The present paper offers an example of such an archive, starting from the model provided by ICA (International Council on Archives) and CFA (English Heritage Centre for Archaeology) for the description of archives and from the model of museum archives used in Romania. Without trying to claim that we have solved the many problems concerning the management of archaeological information, we hope this paper will trigger a series of debates among Romanian archaeologists and will lead to the establishing of specific standards for organizing archaeological archives in our country as well.
