Document şi sensibilitate. Transilvania secolului al XIX-lea în reprezentări de pictură şi grafică din Colecţia Muzeului Brukenthal

  • Subiect: The Transylvanian painting and graphic collections of the Brukenthal Museum contain an important number of works from the 19th century, most of them with a strong documentary character. This study intends to approach the representation of the Transylvanian images through the aspect of mentality, in order to understand more about the life and minds of our ancestors. The artistic life of this province was dominated during the 19th century, by the activity of the itinerant artists. Their works contain both a romantic feature and a documentary one. Attracted by the mast uncommon, exotic aspects of the new lands, these artists caught in their works a lot of aspects which enable the nowadays viewer to find out more about the people who lived more than a century ago, about their tastes, about their habits, about their life. In order to establish a methodology, we defined the following categories: the cityscape (the representational city, the natural city, the sentimental city), the landscape and the genre scene (ethnographical, historical or rnilitary).
