Influenţa situaţiei politice asupra activităţii "Astrei" pînă la 1918

  • Subiect: The Transylvanian Association for Romanian Literature and the Culture of the Romanian People was brought into being in 1861; it proved to be the most important Romanian cultural society in Austro-Hungary. To the political decisions of the state (as those concerning Dualism, the Hungarian Millennium - 1896 -, or Hungarization by means of school-teaching) this settlement reacted each time - as organizing departments (territorial circumscriptions), founding girl-schools, alphabetization campaigns, resistance to emigrations, etc. All the way to the realization of Romanian state unity (1 December 1918) the main objectives of the Transylvanian Association materialized in widening culture among peasants, struggling against Hungarization and for strengthening solidarity with the Romanians over the Carpathians.
