O evocare: Simion Bărnuţiu (iunie 1942, Bucureşti)

  • Subiect: The "Big Târnava" Society, a community for the cultural unity of the Romanians from Transylvania and a soldier for the "borders" of the Romanian people, invites the Prime Minister of Romania, the Marshall Ion Antonescu to participate or to be represented by somebody at Simion Bămuţiu's feast, the most important person of the meeting on the Liberty Field in Blaj. Because of the Second World War, on the 3th of June 1942, the Society asked to be allowed to organize the feast at the New Saint George Church in Bucharest. For more safety they presented the text of Andrei Popovici's speech, the director of the society. It was a very sensible remember of Simion Bămuţiu's personality and his role in the Romanian Revolution from 1848. At the end of the speech he said: .I believe that it is our duty, as people from Transylvania, not to leave to pass over us, without a light feast, this anniversary, as a pious duty of memory for this bright symbol of Transylvania who was and still is Simion Bărnuţiu and more that a glory of the people".
