Ceramica nesmălţuită descoperită în Sibiu, strada Nicolae Bălcescu (săpătură arheologică de salvare)

  • Subiect: The discovery of ceramic fragments on the medieval streets is not surprising. They were places with dirty water fleet and dishes because there are not communal orders to impose cleaning of the streets. In 2005 there was a rescue archaeology campaign on Bălcescu Street, when I discovered fragmentary medieval ceramics. The house located in front of Împăratul romanilor Hotel (The Roman Emperor Hotel) was fired in the 16th century and rebuild. The traces of the medieval house and ceramics with ashes were uncovered. Ceramic fragments were also uncovered near the Phone Centre. Medieval ceramics were not glazed but red burnt and the ceramic forms are characteristic for medieval pottery. The 1556 fire is the terminus ante quem on dating these ceramic finds.
