Prezenţa cărţii româneşti vechi pe meleaguri transilvane, relevată în documente din anii 1867-1868

  • Subiect: The searching of the papers belonging to the archive stock of the Metropolitan Uniate Church of Blaj led to the discovery of some documents attesting the existence of the old Romanian books on the territories which now are the counties of: Alba, Bistriţa-Năsăud, Braşov, Cluj, Mureş, Sălaj and Sibiu. The period they refer to is 1867-1868. The above mentioned documents register 189 books in 1462 copies which were printed both in the main printing centers of the three Romanian Countries: Transilvania (Alba Iulia, Blaj, Braşov, Sebeş, Sibiu), Wallachia (Bucharest, Buzău, Căldăruşani, Mănăstirea Deal, Râmnic, Snagov, Târgovişte), Moldova (Iaşi, Rădăuţi) and in well-known printing offices from abroad (Buda, Wien) between 1867-1868. These documents supply us with information referring to the old Romanian books which were in circulation in Transylvania in a time when denationalization of the very ancient inhabitants of this country was being plotted. They also show that the Romanians, fully aware of their vital and uniting potentialities for their nation had carefully and permanently preserved their spiritual values, considering them as necessary as a proof hoping that they would help the discovery of further patrimonial values.
