Aspecte privind învăţămîntul sălăjan din perioada interbelică (1918-1940)

  • Subiect: Education in Sălaj County in the inter War period 1918-1940 The struggle for the cultural emancipation of the Romanians from Sălaj. and for the affirmation of their national being, is identified as everywhere in Transylvania, with the school and the Church. Most Romanian schools had been set up in the second half of the 19th century. The confessional schools, a form of education adopted by the Romanians after 1868, became the main obstacle for the penetration of the Hungarian language in the territories inhabited by the Romanians, resisting thus the attempts of denationalization coming from the Hungarian state and school authorities. The achievement of the unity of the Romanian people in 1918, to which the confessional schools brought a remarkable contribution, opened the perspectives far the school from Sălaj. During the inter-war period the school remained the most outstanding propagator of learning. In 1930 out of the population of the towns 84,9% and 68,6% of the population, of the rural areas was able to read and write. This percentage placed the county of Sălaj above the average 57,1% of whole Romania but under the 63,3% of Transylvania.
