O problemă de statistică numismatică

  • Subiect: In the paper New Discoveries of the Roman Imperial Hoards al Piatra Neamţ - published in Carpica, 1, 1968, I showed that the two hoards of Roman Imperial coins discovered at Bârgăoani (jud. Neamţ), represent only a hoard, buried in two vases. The reasons used to demonstrate this thing were archaeological, numismatic and historical ones. The methods used in analysing this store of coins were: the research of the state of preservation of the coins, of their weight as well as the studying of their composition. However, we had to assure ourselves that all the results of the research of the state of preservation, of the analysing of the weight and composition of hoards from Bârgăoani, didn't represent similar dates for other similar discoveries too. For that, I applied the same methods of research of some Imperial Roman hoards of coins - discovered on the territory of our country and which partly belonged to the same period as those of the hoards of Bârgăoani (Nero - Lucilla). That is why I studied, in parallel with the hoards of Bârgăoani thosr discovered at Nireş, Dâmbău, Gura Ialomitei. Lujerdiu and Lunguleţu too. The research of all these hoards, from the point of view of the state of preservation of coins (Pl. III-V Nireş and III-V Dâmbău) as well as the analysis of these hoards after the weight of the coins (Pl. II, IV and V - Nireş, II, IV and V - Dâmbău, II, III - Gura Ialomiţei, II, III - Lujerdiu, II, III - Lunguleţu) and their percentage composition - after the emperors and the imperial families' members (Pl. I - Nireş, 1; Dâmbău, 1; Gura Ialomiţei, 1; Lujerdiu, 1 ; Lunguleţu, 1) have confirmed, according to our opinion, that our Roman Imperial hoards of coins from the 1st and the 2nd century A.D. (Nero - Commodus) are different from the numismatic point of view and therefore they are strongly individualized. Going to mathematic instrument, we realized that the plate of percentages of the composition of the seven hoards gives the following probabilities for the existence of a single hoard: to the both hoards from Bârgăoani the probability P(A1) - 1/3 for the other five hoards it qives P(A2) – 1/13 but for the all seven we have P(A3) - 1/13. Implicitly, thus it was confirmed the assumption suited to which, in the discovery of Bârgăoani exists, as we are convinced, only one hoard. This particular case supports Prof. Bucur Mitrea's assumption (sees notes 19 and 20), suited to it the different parts of a coin store reflect its composition.
