Începuturile migraţiei popoarelor în regiunea est-carpatică şi tezaurul de monede romane imperiale de la Racova-Chetriş, jud. Bacău

  • Subiect: In the village of Racova, the commune Chetriş from Moldavia, a hoard of approximately 300 Roman Imperial denarii was discovered in 1951. Of these denarii, a number of 237 denarii beginning with Otho and ending with Septimius Sever were recovered in 1953 and then they were studied. After the emperors, the coins are divided as follows: Otho 1, Vitellius 1, Vespasianus 19, Titus 2, Domitianus -, Nerva -, Trajan 23, Hadrian 37, Antoninus Pius 86, M. Aurelius 53, Commodus 12, and Septimius Severus 3. The most recent denarius is of 195-196. The hoard was buried in 196 or soon after that date. The author also believes that it is possible that these hoards have been buried because of the migration of the Goths, as such monetary hoards which end with denarii from Septimius Severus are known as being buried in Moldavia and in the eastern regions of the Soviet Union. The hoards of Moldavia were hidden because of the migration of Sarmatians pushed by the Goths. At the same time we must mention the economic fact which had deeper implications: Septimius Severus' monetary reform which dates of that time. That is why it is possible that the burial of these hoards to be an economic phenomenon caused by Septimius Severus' monetary reform.
