Ţărănimea din România şi Unirea Transilvaniei (august 1914-august 1916)

  • Subiect: The creation of the national unitary state was a result of the struggle waged by the whole Romanian people, from the both sides of the Carpathians. The peasantry, which constituted the overwhelming majority of the Romanian population, was animated in the years of neutrality by a powerful wish to bring their contribution to the achievement of this national ideal. Any analysis of the documents from the period of August, 1914 - August, 1916, leads us to the conclusion that the peasantry - animated by strong patriotism - have expressed in various forms their determination to contribute, with any sacrifices, to the union of Transylvania with Romania. This attitude was expressed through declarations and letters, through prompt answer to the concentrations, through their contribution to collect materials for the army, through the enthusiasm with which they answered to the mobilization. At the end of the war, the peasantry, together with the whole people, had the satisfaction to see achieved the secular dream of the union of Transylvania with Romania.
