Descoperile monetare şi legăturile dintre tracii sud-dunăreni şi lumea geto-dacă

  • Subiect: As the origin of Latene in the North of the Danube is still discussed, we consider that the numismatics can help analysing this process. There are monetary discoveries which come from the South of the Danube, showing the Thracian origin of some of the first coins which circulated on the territory of our country. There are five monetary strata which attest the connections between the South Danubian Thracians and the Geto-Dacian world : I. The imitations of Philip II-type (see on the map num. 3-64), the bronze coins of Philip II and Alexander the Great (see on the map num. 65-68), as well as the coins of the Thracian kings (on the map num. 1-2); II. The coins which imitate the drachmas and tetradrachms of Alexander the Great and Philip III Arideus; III. The coins of the West-Pontic Greek colonies or of the colonies from the South of Haemus (see on the map num. 70-80); IV. The imitations of Larissa type (on the map num. 80-85); V. Thasian imitations (see on the map num. 86-139). At the end of the 4th century BC, the coins of the Thracian kings entered at the North of the Danube at the same time with the Macedonian coins and their imitations of South origin. At the same time the Macedonian bronze coins appeared at the North of the Danube. All these penetrations show the beginning of a real monetary circulation in the North-Danubian zone. At the South of the Danube it is realized the presence of some coins which have come from the North of the river (at Beljanovo-Russe, Gagalea-Russe, Russe, Pirgovo-Russe). About 300 BC, the discoveries are grouped near the Danube, during the following centuries, the discoveries increase in the other Geto-Dacian regions too.
