Problema creării unui front democratic în România şi activitatea Partidului Naţional-Ţărănesc şi a Partidului Naţional-Liberal în preajma instaurării dictaturii regale (decembrie 1937-februarie 1938)

  • Subiect: In the parliamentary elections of December 20, 1937, none of the political parties obtained victory, so that King Charles II called to government the National Christian Party led by O. Goga. The main bourgeois parties - the National Peasant Party and the National Liberal Party - rose against the Goga-Cuza government and the decisions of Charles II to set up the royal dictatorship. But, facing the imminent danger of the Iron Guard, the intention of which was to set up a terrorist-fascist dictatorship and to throw Romania in the arms of Hitler’s Germany, the national-peasant and national-liberal leaders have accepted the setting up of the royal dictatorship in February 10, 1938. Refusing to cooperate with the consistent democratic forces, led by the Romanian Communist Party, in view of defending the parliamentary-constitutional regime, the leaders of the N.P.P. and the N.L.P. had an important responsibility for the establishment of the royal dictatorship.
