Stăpâni funciari în ţinutul Neamţ în prima jumătate a secolului al XV-lea. Vornicii Oană de la Suceava şi Vlad de la Pârâul Alb

  • Subiect: This study, regarding the history of Neamţ County in the Middle Ages, is focused on a subject approached by the author in several occasions, being also the topic of his doctoral studies. Previously, through a series of articles published in magazines such as "Historiographic Options" or "Magister", the author discussed a number of issues pertaining to the nobility owned land areas in Neamţ County. Through the present study the author investigated the socio-economic and political life of two great boyars in the first half of the fifteenth century: Oană, governor of Suceava and Vlad, known in some documents as Vlad from Pârâul Alb (White Creek). The research of several documents – some published in national collections, others from the State Archives from Iaşi – shown that these boyars received great political importance during the reign of Alexandru cel Bun, such as reflected by the extent of their bestowed proprieties. Thus, Oană, the governor of Suceava, came to possess no more than 23 villages, of which nearly half were placed in Neamţ County, near Bahniţa Creek. Of particular interest is the fact that these villages were placed side by side, forming a unit, although at that age is not too common for rulers to equip their boyars with such undivided properties, just to avoid the creation of local centres of power. Vlad governor’s possessions, less numerous, were composed by the villages Pârâul Alb, Scheia and Zbârceşti, but also Câmpul lui Vlad (Field of Vlad), remembered as a border in a document. Into the deep religious spirit which characterized the medieval man, these high officials of Moldavia were both founders of religious places and donors, fully proven in the case of Oană, governor of Suceava, and very probably the same in the case of Vlad from Pârâul Alb.
