Povestea domniţei Ruxandra. Istorie şi legendă

  • Subiect: In this article, the author presents some historical data about Princess Ruxandra, the daughter of Vasile Lupu. For a complete analysis, there are presented several issues: the paternal ancestors, the maternal ancestors, Vasile Lupu’s family and Princess Ruxandra’s tragedy. Ruxandra was born in 1629/1630, and a part of her childhood was spent in Preuteşti, a village in Neamţ County. In 1645 she was taken to Constantinople, as a guarantee of the diplomatic relations between Vasile Lupu and the Ottoman Empire. There were several intentions of marriage, but in 1652 she was married with Timuş Hmelnitski, the Ukrainians hatman’s son. But, after a year of marriage, he dies in a battle, and after a while, Ruxandra was remarried with Ian Antonowski. In 1661, Ruxandra became a widow, and in 1666 she returned to Moldavia. After this time, her name appears in many internal documents related to the mastery of the villages and the estates. During the Polish expedition in Moldavia, in 1686, Princess Ruxandra was robbed and killed in the Fortress of Neamţ. At the end of the article, the author presents some aspects of genealogy and a few documentary sources relating to Vasile Lupu’s family and Princess Ruxandra.
