Cum a fost restaurată şi conservată "Hora de la Frumuşica"

  • Subiect: In the collections of the Archaeological Museum of Piatra Neamţ is a famous piece of pottery, which is considered unique in the Neolithic art of Cucuteni, dated in the 4th millennium B.C. Its compositional form, which bas similarities with our folk dance "Hora", suggested to the archaeologists the name "Hora de la Frumuşica" (The Roundclay of Frumuşica). At the beginning, the object was composed of six human figurines, very beautifully stylized. The upper part is absent. This anthropomorphic artefact was discovered in 1942, due to the archaeological excavations in the Neolithic settlement from Frumuşica, Bodeşti commune, Neamţ county. It was found broken. The fragments which were found, were incompletely restored at that time (fig. 1/1 and 1/2) with inadequate materials (casein glue and cement). In 1956 we began the work again, using reversible materials and suited with the ceramic (celluloid glue, pharmaceutical gyps and colourless lacquer), so it got an interesting and attractive aspect (fig. 1/3). For 23 years the object was exhibited and the substances used at its assemblance and preservation became old and cracked. That's why in 1979, we had to restore it for the third time, using poliacetate of vinyl, pharmaceutical gyps and colourless lacquer. Having a better documentation we improved the shape of the object making him higher with 6 cm, giving its almost initial form (fig. 2).
