Un tezaur monetar de la Zalău, sec. XIX-XX

  • Subiect: A Coin Hoard from Zalău, 19th-20th Century The paper deals with a coin hoard discovered in 1984 in Zalău and kept in the local Museum. It consists of 359 silver coins and 11 nickel coins issued in Wien and Kremnica for Austria, in the same mint (Kremnica) for Hungary and in Serbia: 29 guldens, 268 crowns (Kronen), 41 five crown coins, 19 two crown coins, three 20 heler coins, five 20 filler coins, two 10 heller coins, a 10 filler coin and a Serbian dinar. The authors give the full list of the coins and make some considerations concerning the various issues of the hoard. Among the coins of the hoard there are some rare issues (no. 176-177; see f.n. 3). The hoard shows analogies with those of Reghin (see f.n. 4) and Şimleu Silvaniei (see f.n. 6). All these three hoards were buried in 1918/1919, on account of the troubles generated by the fall of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Of course, the nickel small change was added just in the moment the hoard was buried.
