The etymologie of the ancient word slobod

  • Subiect: Summary: Hundreds of words of the Romanian language have etymologies established back in the XIXth century by scholars belonging to the Panslavist movement that reflect their views in line with the then prevalent political convictions1• The validity of such etymologies has not been verified in spite of serious flaws. This article concentrates on the word slobod, adjective meaning.free in Romanian, and shows that the "Slavic" origin is impossible. Slobod is built with morphemes, small meaningful units, that have clear significance only in Romanian.
