Cele mai vechi mărturii certe ale utilizării ocrului în Paleoliticul din Europa descoperite în Subcarpaţii Olteniei

  • Subiect: The Cioarei Cave is situated in Boroşteni village, the commune of Peştişani, Gorj County, at an absolute height of 350 m. In the cave has been identified an important Mousterian dwelling and another one attributed to the Gravetian. The Mousterian layers have provided important quantities of ochre, and especially eight containers for preparing the ochre, made from the upper part of stalagmites and from stalagmite crust. Most of these containers are concentrated in layer E, dated at over 50.000 B.P. The microscopic analysis of the ochre layers has pointed out extremely interesting aspects concerning the elements of the pigments used, and concerning the carving processes by means of scraping and scratching.
