Un proces de răsunet la început de secol XX: doi înalţi ierarhi ajunşi în faţa justiţiei

  • Subiect: At the beginning of the twentieth century the Orthodox Church of Romania was the scene of a media scandal since those who were subjected to the trial of the Holy Synod occupied the highest positions in the hierarchy of the Church: the main bishop Atanasie Mironescu and the bishop of Roman Gherasim Safirim. In fact, the reason of the conflict was caused by the contradictory attitude of the two on the approval of the law from 1909 on the establishing of the Superior Church Consistory, which was considered to undermine the powers of the Holy Synod at the expense of the new body. But soon after the outbreak of the conflict this aspect will be passed into shadow, and especially through the media, the public opinion will attend to an unprecedented scandal in which those involved will accuse each other both of violating the religious dogmas by voting for this law and other more serious offenses such as heresy, immorality and plagiarism. Finally, after more than a year of disputes and complaints, the verdict of the Holy Synod has satisfied none of the parties and the suspicion that the decision was driven by political influence has been increasingly taking place in the public opinion.
