  • Subiect: With the advent of written laws at the end of the nineteenth century, there is a noticeable change in terms of privacy, law starting to be used in place of "wont". Despite these changes, when there were complaints and they got to court, the Church had still the last word in the case of important events in human life: baptism, marriage, divorce. The Church was present in people's life and a lot of townspeople and villagers were seeking for support in the church where they felt protected. For „the protection" given by the Church, the Romanians responded with responsibility and respect. Although they were Christians and mostly married for love, it often went wrong and they often reached to divorce but only with the permission of the church. Church investigated the case, heard the witnesses and ultimately decided. If there were misunderstandings about fortune, or a division of assets, they were decided by a civil court.
