Unelte litice descoperite pe teritoriul comunei Popeşti (judeţul Vâlcea). Studiu petrografic şi arheologic

  • Subiect: The interdisciplinary study of the remains of prehistoric settlements discovered by accident in the area, in the hearth and border of Popesti, indicates five lithic objects. Following the research, concerning the nature of the raw material that was used in processing tools, there were identified two groups of rocks: one of magmatic origin and another, metamorphic. The microscopic study of the artifacts allowed the specialists to determine the petrographic nature of these rocks: amphibolites, gnaise and dolerite. After form and use, the studied tools show three distinct parts: axe-shaped vessel with high perforation to the edge (a fragment and two complete copies), an axe with a wide body and a truncated cone edge and a pestle-shaped last. The body of the tools is sprinkled with numerous breaches, notches and cracks made, in the past, during intensive use. They were processed in the polishing equipment in local workshops or entered the area via the exchange of intracarpathian Transylvanian space in the region of the Getic Piedmont of northeastern Oltenia. The analogies cited for each copy ensure the chronology of the artifacts in the interval between the Middle Neolithic and early Bronze Age. The petrographical, mineralogical and archaeological investigation of the stone objects brings an unprecedented contribution to the knowledge of the lithic industry of some prehistoric settlements identified in the west region of the River Olt in the Southern Sub-Carpathians and enrich the poor repertoire of Vâlcea County.
