Topoare-ciocan de minerit din colecţia Muzeului "A. Sacerdoţeanu" Vâlcea

  • Subiect: The archeological collection of the museum stores two axes – sledgehammer type, small sized (inv. 41 / 1 and 41 / 2) and a massive piece (inv. 41 / 3). The tools consist of the arm - hammer at the top, the arm - edge at the opposite end and a ditch to catch the tail, up to the edge. Painstakingly polished (two copies) or roughly chipped (one piece), the body of the mining hammers have traces of sharps, on the lateral sides and along the edge, produced during strong impact against solid objects. This type of tool is used in mining, in crushing the copper ore, in crushing the salt rocks and in other household works. In general, the axes - mining hammer date back from the late Neolithic till the Bronze Age and show mining practice in the North-Eastern part of Oltenia since prehistoric times.
