Identitate românească, identitate europeană în secolul al XVIII-lea

  • Subiect: This article is an attempt to highlight the importance of a period characterized by spectacular transformations of the society, particularly in Western Europe, and in the case of the Romanian society, by preparing the conditions for the transition to the modern world. It is about the Enlightenment, as it was named the eighteenth century. At the same time, we wish to emphasize the importance of the Vâlcea culture in the development of the innovative spirit and the spreading of the modern world specific ideas since the eighteenth century, especially because this period is, for the Romanian territory, a conservative one. When we speak about the Romanian Enlightenment, we certainly mention the Transylvanian School. It is less known that the Romanian Enlightenment means equally Vâlcea School. I propose through this article, a comparative analysis on the role of the two Romanian cultural centers in the eighteenth century highlighted by the work of some outstanding representatives of these centers. We speak about Petru Maior and Chesarie Râmniceanul.
