Veniturile şi cheltuielile domeniilor mănăstireşti din Oltenia în epoca modernă

  • Subiect: The analysis of the incomes obtained by the ecclesiastical settlements reveals the role that the leasing had in the functioning of the monasterial domain. The incomes obtained through leases represented the essential source of the existence of the monasterial domain. The incomes obtained through tithe and corvee continued to represent an important share. The most important part of the incomes obtained by the ecclesiastical properties from Oltenia was used to cover the internal expenses (settlements upkeep, the payment of the personnel, the support of certain public settlements). Under these conditions, the monasteries did not manage to assure from the incomes the further development of the production cycle at a higher level. There also had been attempts of accessing the new methods of ecclesiastical properties exploitation and of involvements in the devices of the capitalist economy. In the modernization process of the Romanian state, the collective mentality is favorable to the monasterial field reformation, in order to attract its great resources into the economical and financial circuit. The secularization of the monasterial wealth, accomplished in December 1863 will solve this delicate and controversial problem.
