• Subiect: The archeological findings, historical and linguistic, show the existence on the Romanian territory of the technical installations moved by the water force even before the Daco-Roman ages. From the middle ages period, many documents, the heritage documents, the documents from the branch, the official documents, mention the presence of these technical installations in different villages, counties of the Romanian countries. From these technical installations are remarkable the water mills, which after the acting system, are divided in: water mills with horizontal wheel (which have been the most present) and water mills with vertical wheel which have penetrated in the Romanian countries in the IX-X centuries from Minor Asia on a ‘cultural-historical path’ through Serbia and Bulgaria. Starting with the XVII century, some foreign travelers, passing through the Romanian countries, revealed about the presence of many water mills placed on the rivers from Vâlcea County. From the affluent of River Olt, the Olteţ River, in the middle ages period, had a big flow of water and relatively constant, which explains the presence of many water mills in its hydrographic basin, but at the middle of XX century, the number of water mills decreased and only 37 of such installations were still working. These water mills with this architectural characteristics and the way its are build, are ranking in the category of “Monuments of popular technique” which with the “Monuments of popular architecture” and the creations of our Folks Art, are the expressive values of our tradition and heritage culture.
