Necropola medievală din secolul al XIII-lea de la Ciocadia, judeţul Gorj

  • Subiect: In the Roman farm perimeter we discovered a middle ages necropolis that had the interment rit. The necropolis dates from the 13th century and we know this thanks to a silver coin discovered by a skeleton, that was emitted by Ladislau IV Cuman, the king of Hungary (1272 – 1290). We discovered here five tombs. The skeletons were east–west oriented, after the Christian rite. One of the tombs cut the Roman wall. It was found a jar like ceramic vessel that in the upper part many deepened lines. This jar is decorated with straight lines that were crossed of „X” shape. The existence of a middle ages necropolis in this place makes us think that near here it had to be a rural settlement which was not found until now. From the chronological point of view, the middle age necropolis besides the coin and the ceramic vessel are some elements of rite that appear in other cultural horizons from inside and outside the Carpathians area. Still, a „terminus post quem” for the upper limit is given by the numismatics piece that indicates a period of time until 1290.
