Scurt istoric al vilei Alexandru Iliescu (fosta Casă de Cultură) Băile Govora-judeţul Vâlcea

  • Subiect: ,,Vila Iliescu” was built at the beginning of the 20th century. The owner of the building was Alexandru Iliescu, former vice president of PNL party during 1912-1914. He owned both pieces of land and agricultural machinery in Olt County. Alexandru Iliescu, known as a great philanthropist and the initiator of many charity acts, donated his mansion, situated in Vâlcea, to the ,,Govora-Călimăneşti” society. He requested that the income from the building exploitation to be used to finance home for elderly and for the First World War veterans. Until 1956, this building functioned as a medical center, but this thing was changed by Mihail Sadoveanu, the vice president of MAN. He took the decision to transform the building in a culture house, which carried his name until 2009. After obtaining this building, Băile-Govora City Hall, restored it and transformed it into a library and a museum.
