Vila Vârgolici şi Vila Bunescu, Băile Govora, judeţul Vâlcea (scurt istoric)

  • Subiect: „Vârgolici Villa” is a building set in the city center and built in two phases (1909-1916 and 1913-1916) having as aim to accommodate the drugstore and some living spaces. The first owner of the building and the one who ordered its set up was the pharmacist Anghel Vargolici. It is built in the local style using more wood – for ornamental purposes – for the stairways and balconies and also for the doorways. At the ground floor there are the pharmacy (which still functions) and the annexes, and upstairs there are the living spaces of the pharmacist's family and the guest rooms too. In the beginning, the drugstore worked during the season, but after the 1950s to date it has been working permanently, being also the first drugstore dedicated to the community of Băile Govora. „Bunescu Villa” is located on the left bank of the stream Hinţa, on the town's main road, and it was built in the late nineteenth century in the style characteristic to the pre-mountainous region of northern Oltenia, a style also similar to other constructions in Govora. The first owner was a wealthy family in the area, from Buneşti, from where the name Bunescu also came. The construction has three levels, it consists of three buildings made of brick, with many balconies and corridors richly ornated with wooden decorative elements. Bunescu Villa, as it was originally called, has been very popular among visitors because balls and concerts were organized in the rooms downstairs. The popularity of Bunescu Villa drastically decreased after 1914, when Palace Hotel was inaugurated.
