Iconografia unui vas ceramic Starčevo-Criş descoperit la Acmariu (comuna Blandiana, judeţul Alba)

  • Subiect: This paper presents the iconography of a Starčevo-Criş ceramic pot. The vessel was recently discovered in Acmariu village (Blandiana commune, Alba County). The artefact is a large pot used for storing cereals, in the Early Neolithic. The stylized clay appliqués on the body of the vessel (human representations, in our opinion) makes it unique. The recipient can be compared to other similar pieces coming from Körös culture, where the abstract human renderings (male or female) and the zoomorphic ones are better known. Some of the analogies come from Hungary and they are in the Körös discoveries from Becsehely-Bukkaljai-dűlő, Hódmezővásárhely-Kotacpart, Vata-tanya, Hódmezővásárhely-Kopáncs, Zsoldos-tanya, Szajol-Felsőföld and Szentpéterszeg-Körtvélyes, or they come from south-eastern Slovacia, in the Early Linear settlement from Košice-Červený rak. The vessel from Acmariu is very important because it gives us the possibility of analyzing a poorly known side of the Early Neolithic spiritual manifestations. Most likely, the symbolism of large pots with stylized anthropomorphic depictions can be understood also from the agrarian meanings of that period.
