Epidemiile de ciumă din Banatul Timişan

  • Subiect: The paper is aimed to contribute to establish the chronology of this terrible disease that affected the Timiş-Banat region. This topic is particularly important because other researchers focused their studies on epidemics in Ardeal region, especially Transylvania, excluding, due to unknown reasons, the Banat region and the western part of Ardeal. Based on historical sources and on writings from people that studied this malady, we were able to cover a time period of almost 600 years, between 1241 and 1836, when the last plague epidemic in Banat was reported. From the entire above-mentioned period, we made a detailed presentation of the most important epidemic that occurred between 1738 and 1740. This plague epidemic had the largest spreading and was also responsible for the highest number of victims.
