Caracteristicele reproducerii strigii (Tyto Alba) în judeţul Satu Mare

  • Subiect: Barn owl`s biology was well documented in Romania but the reproduction biology was one of the neglected topics. Our aim was to fill the gaps and bring new information concerning to the barn owl`s reproduction biology. The barn owl`s breeding season starts a little bit earlier in Satu Mare County than the European average. Like all barn owl populations from the temperate zone, approximate half of population produced a second clutch per year. In Satu Mare County the clutch size was the same like the mean Central European one. Because the region offers good conditions for breeding we did not found significantly differences between the clutch sizes in a year and between the weight and volume of eggs from first and second clutch. In unfavorable conditions the pairs delayed the moment of producing the first clutch and the number of eggs were decreasing. There was no significant difference between the size and weight of eggs from first and second clutch. The number of juveniles and the breeding success of barn owl were relatively high in Satu Mare County which underline that the County had good environmental conditions for the species breeding
