Tezaurul de denari romani găsit la Ciolpani (oraşul Buhuşi, judeţul Bacău)

  • Subiect: „At the History Museum from Piatra Neamţ, the coins belonging to five ancient hoards have been mixed „by accident” and they cannot be completely analyzed any more. That is why as I have already stated not long ago, it is necessary the presentation of all information existing about any of these deposits. This is the fortunate case of the hoard from Ciolpani (Buhuşi town, Bacău county). The discovery we are going to talk about, has been made in the hamlet of Ciolpani which belongs administratively to Buhuşi town (Fig. 1-3). Discovered by accident by the villagers from Costişa (Neamţ county) in 1970, the vessel and the coins of the hoard from Ciolpani reached the Museum of Piatra Neamţ, where they have cleaned, treated, restored (the vessel) and preserved (Fig. 4). Though a complete examination of the monetary pieces cannot be possible, some information have been kept which allow a resumption of the numismatic analysis, even if it is apartial one. 1042 coins reached the museum of Piatra Neamţ, to which other 8 denarii have been added, as well as two coins from private persons. In my paper, I also present a small catalogue of the denarii from Bacău musem whose technical and identification data have been preserved. From the vessel with coins, as it reached the museum of Piatra Neamţ, there have been recovered 917 coins, having 217 g of thin earth mixed with oxides and clorides (Fig. 5). In their turn, the 917 denarii lost after their cleaning 107.24 g, that is 3% from their initial weight /3256.16). The vessel the coins were deposited is a mug, partially deteriorated, covered with black angobe, belonging to the pottery used by free Dacians in the 2nd and 3rd c. p. Chr. (Fig. 6). Consequently, through its structure, the deposit from Ciolpani belongs to the series of hoards ended with issues from Septimius Severus. In the end, for the knowledge and understanding of the monetary discoveries, we think it is necessary and useful to look for all the information we had until that moment.”
