Practici funerare întâlnite în unele necropole din secolul IV d. Chr. de la est de Carpaţi. Rituri şi ritualuri funerare

  • Subiect: The long-term cohabitation of the free Dacians with some Germanic tribes (Vandals, Bastarnae) and with the Sarmatians, along with the gothic influences and the strong roman provicial contributions, will lead to the loss of some cultural characteristics, defining for each population, and to the takeover of new ones. Some parts of the free Dacians’ culture will remain untouched, others will be changed and part will disappear. Basically, there will be a long process of acculturation that will lead to the birth of a new culture. These influences and changes can be also seen in the sensitive area of funeral practices that can be divided into two major categories, namely, practices in the funeral rites’area (cremation and inhumation, graves’ fittings, the disposal of dead body, subsequent interventions), and that in the funeral rituals’ area (food offerings, household and multifunctional objects and tools, weapons). However, all of these provides a very rich and diverse information on those buried, including their position in the community to which they belong. The fact is that the transformations in the funerary practices, evidenced by the switch from the necropolis specific for the II-III centuries A.D., where the cremation was majority, to the practices found in the necropolis of the next century, where the inhumation became predominant, are linked to the blend of populations and cultures.”
