Gaston Bachelard şi analiza focului – sursă de sugestii pentru înţelegerea comportamentului omului preistoric

  • Subiect: „This paper analyzes the considerations that, especially in his work La Psychanalyse du feu, the French philosopher Gaston Bachelard (1884-1962) makes on fire, as a basic element in the human life and in the shaping its thinking. Bachelard does not make the psychoanalysis of this element itself, but of the myths and explanations created around the fire, so his work fits best within the philosophical anthropology. Fire is a contradictory element, valorised in a double sense: the good and the evil. Bachelard believes that the spirit of man was formed by meditating on fire, but the man mused (daydreaming) should not be confused with the thinking man (reasoning). Particular attention is paid to the mythology of the fire goddess, who was yet the protector of the home, being also the symbol of purification by fire. Fire represented absolute purity over all other elements. On what concerns the Promethean complex, it must not be reduced only to the relationship between prohibition and disobedience, but must be interpreted also as a tendency of the will of knowledge. Therefore, the fire is perceived by people more as a social being rather than a natural phenomenon, so it is personified. The religious option of several human communities for the cremation rite is the consequence of the belief that, through cremation, one loses everything, to win everything. In the light of the scientific methodology developed by Bachelard, in the interpretation of the archaeological finds linked to the presence of fire (fire installations, places arranged for burning the offerings, cremation rite), the archaeologist must remain within the sphere of concrete facts and not mixing reality with a series of clichés present in his subconscious, due to the accumulation of traditions, customs and some images obtained through various readings. The two categories of information should be considered separately and only later one may try the complementarity of information and interpretations.”
