  • Subiect: „The present work entitled Camil Petrescu in Târgovişte. Identifiable local characters in the novel "The Last Night of Love, the First Night of War", starting from the author’s testimony that the novel was an autobiographical one, aims to highlight this by a comparative research between the facts and descriptions of the novel, with more concrete testimonies of Colonel Ion Nicolin contained in his work, History of the Regiment, 22 Dâmboviţa, Battalion III. The reserve lieutenant, Camil Petrescu, participant in the First World War, in the Infantry Regiment Dâmboviţa, the later novelist, Gheorghidiu, the hero of the novel, makes references and descriptions regarding the advance of the Romanian troops over the Carpathians and the conquest of the Vulcan and the battles in Giuvala Customs, Old and New Tohanul, Codlea, Tzanţari and the Olt crossing to Krihalma, then the occupation of Săsăuş village, as well as the creations of comrades: commander, officers and noncommissioned officers. Wounded in war, in 1916, Camil Petrescu returns to Târgovişte to be treated at the county hospital in the city. From this period remains a description of the old town, with houses, people, events, attitudes, aspects of everyday life. After years, in 1928, before the publication of the novel, he will return to the old town, in the house of Colonel Gheorghe Georgescu, a few steps from the old Royal Court, an old comrade of the front, to reminisce and bring the last corrections and additions to the book that was to see the light of the print very shortly after.”
