  • Subiect: The Romanian army engaged in a war with a new configuration and dynamics - Battle for Galaţi, January 1918 One of these pages of history that Bolshevik ideologists wished to remove from collective memory was the 7/20-9/22 January 1918 moment, when in Galati, in a very complex international context, there was a fierce struggle for „nation and country" to prevent the political and military collapse of what remained of the Kingdom of Romania after the defeats of 1917 - namely, Moldova. The Battle of Galati in 1918, January 7/20 - 9/22, was one of the first armed confrontations following the rules of a modern warfare where all types of weapons are involved and perfectly cooperate in our case, artillery, aviation, with a double role of recognition, but also that of supporting the land army by bombardment, then the fleet, whose shooting defended and supported the soldiers, who eventually got to the melee fight. Undoubtedly, the information transmission unit had an important role - by telephone, so that very good coordination could be achieved between all the army bodies. After the victory of the Romanian army, not only the front was rescued, but also the bolshevization of other Russian army bodies ( consisting of about one million people) and even the attempt, through pressure from the other points, Paşcani and Spătăreşti - Fălticeni, to bolshevism the space of Moldova were avoided for the time being. Let us not forget that the city was the southernmost point on the front line in 1918, located on the border with Russia, through Bessarabia, occupied in 1821 by the Tsarist Empire. After this victory, Bessarabia was able to receive the armed support it had requested, so that it could protect itself against the robbery and crimes of the Russian army that was retreating in great disorder and so that it could defend its independence, a first step towards fulfilling an ideal, that of “the union with the Country” - in March 1918.
