Sondajul arheologic din punctul "Călăboia" sat polocin, comuna Pogoneşti (jud. Vaslui)

  • Subiect: Searches for identifying the settlement/settlements from the two cemeteries, that were close to each other and almost contemporary, namely the cemeteries from Pogoneşti, "La Movilă" point and Polocin, "Islaz" point, helped us discover a house at about 400 m east from each of the two specified points. In the summer of 2009, an archaeological survey was conducted at ,,Călălboaia” point, where we noticed some clumps of ceramic material at the soil surface, over the years. Following the research made, we discovered part of a surface house with an appreciable amount of pottery scattered over a large area. By its characteristics, the house can be framed within III – IV century AD. The 900 pieces discovered come from various types of stoneware with different utility that were handmade of coarse paste, or at the wheel of rough paste, or made of fine gray or reddish paste. Part of the archaeological material recovered can be easily placed between II - III century AD, but the majority of it can be placed, chronologically and culturally, during the Gothic migration and part of Sântana de Mureş – Černjacov culture. The upcoming researches from the following years will help us clarify the issues regarding the cultural framing of this new discovery. It will also be interesting to determine whether there is any connection between the cemeteries that were surveyed in the previous years and the new discovery, given the few timing items that allow us to think of a possible earlier settlement placed between II - III century AD.
