Contribuţia materială a populaţiei din judeţul Tutova la purtarea războiului de Independenţă

  • Subiect: Together with the inhabitants of the other Romanian districts; the people from the district of Tutova (with the capital at Birlad) gave their contribution to the Independence War through several ways : they provided carts and wagons in order to support the military transports ; they also provided animals and other goods necessary to the army ; they collected certain sums of money as weel as bread, flour and other victuals and military equipments ; they also organized campaigns for collecting money destined to the acquisition of weapons ; they constituited committees charged with gathering funds and effects for the wounded and their medical care, etc. Among these fervent supporters of the Independence War we may mention the teacher Stroe Belloescu, the pupils of the Birlad secondary schools; the committes „The Birlad Laids' Society" and the "Jewish-Romanian Yauth Organization" (also from Birlad). The money collected by the "Ladies' Society was destined to the acquisition of large tents, that were afterwards sent to Turnu Măgurele, in order to be used in a war (front) hospital.
