O dispută istoriografică: Mănăstirea Corbu şi/sau Mănăstirea Lipovăţ ?

  • Subiect: The present paper aims at shedding light on the existence of certain mediaeval religious establishments from the area pertaining to the Lipovăţ village, from the Vaslui county. Careful analysis of a few documents by the rulers Miron Movilă Bamovschi, Alexandru Iliaş and Moise Movilă lead to the following conclusions: at the beginning of the 1 7'h century, in the Lipovăţ area, there was the Corbu monastery, under the patronage of Virgin Mary's Dormition, belonging to the Zografu Monastery from Mount Athos ; in a a few years ( 1 630- 1 63 1 ), this monastery "was destroyed", being replaced by the Saint George monastery of Lipovăţ, belonging to the Zografos monastery as well, built by the great official Lupu Coei and endowed by Moise Movilă with all the donations that had previously been given to the Corbu Monastery; Vasile Lupu's intention to rebuild a monastery at Corbu did not materialize.
