Al.I. Cuza - controverse istorice

  • Subiect: In time, there have been many controversies regarding the date of birth and the birthplace of Al.I. Cuza, the first ruler of the united Romanian principalities, Moldavia and Wallachia. In his highschool graduation Diploma, the date of birth is the 1st of September 1818. Most historians (I.G. Valentineanu, A.D Xenopol, C.C. Giurescu, Dan Berindei, D. lvănescu) consider that the real date of birth is the 20th of march 1820, this date being written in the Death Certificate that was written down at Heidelberg (Germany) on the 15th of may 1873, in the Almanac from Gotha and on the funeral monument at Ruginoasa. Three places fought over the honor of being the birthplace of Cuza. I.G. Valentineanu was in favor of Galaţi, Lucia Borş for Huşi. The most famous historians (A.D. Xenopol, C.C. Giurescu, T. W. Riker, Dan Berindei, Gh. Platon, D. Ivănescu ş.a) pointed towards Bârlad as the birthplace, based on the following arguments: the highschool graduation Diploma, released by the University of Paris in 1835; the Almanac from Gotha; the funeral monument at Ruginoasa, built at the demand of Elena Cuza, the ruler's wife; the Death Certificate written by the City Hali of Heidelberg (Germany), where the correction asked by Elena Cuza (she asked that instead of Bucharest, wrongfully put as birthplace by dr. Gustav Dobelmann, they should write Bârlad) was made; the telegram of Elena Cuza in response to the message of sympathy sent by a deputation from Bârlad at Cuza 's funeral.
