Subiect: A less understood aspect is the technical process by which the floating watermills are moving upstream, by using adequately their milling installation, thus becoming ad-hoc schips. From the careful study of the ancient and modern drawings and documents results that, while moving upstream, the water-mills used the energy of the flowing river, by employing the wheels as paddle-wheels, the drum as a transmission device and a fixed point on the river-bank as anchoring post. In this way, the water-mills were used to transport the grain on the Danube, from Galaţi to Vienna, as it is mentioned in the documents of the period.
