Uitarea - a doua condamnare la moarte a martirilor neamului

  • Subiect: The study OBLIVION - THE SECOND DEATH SENTENCE FOR THE NATION'S MARTYRS aims to push for the rehabilitation of the memory of ali the Romanian martyrs, but especially of the ones who, for politica! reasons or due to the obedience to alien interests, have been attempted to be removed from the history of the Romanian people. We shall refer in particular to the life and work of the former Metropolitan Visarion Puiu, leading personality not only of the Romanian Orthodox Church but also of the ecumenical movement, and to Professor George Alexianu, former governor of Trans-Dniester, both sentenced to death in 1946 under the accusation of "war criminal" by the odious, Bolshevik-inspired, "People's Tribunal", instituted by the newly communist regime in Romania. Since both great personalities of the recent history of Romania were clase collaborators of Marshal Ion Antonescu, aspects of his role in the sequence of events that have profoundly affected the destiny of Romania on the eve of, during and after World War Il are indirectly evoked. A controversial issue remains the attitude of Marshal Ion Antonescu towards the Jews in Romania, an attitude viewed rather favorably by the historical leaders of Romanian Jewry, but !ater strongly condernned by some Hebrews and especially by current Zionist circles that invented the notion of "Romanian Holocaust" Since the attempts to rehabilitate the memory of Metropolitan Visarion Puiu and Professor Gheorghe Alexianu collide with the perception upon Marshal Ion Antonescu, we had to extend the study to the Jewish problem and its historical evolution. Although we maintain feelings of sympathy and compassion for the much oppressed, especially in recent history, Jewish people, the historical analysis reveals also some responsibilities of the Jews for several states of conflict that they've been part of, things for which they should not oppose the rehabilitation of the memory of the above mentioned personalities, including Marshal Ion Antonescu. In the name of national dignity the call for reconsideration and reconciliation addresses the current Romanian authorities, though, who have formally condemned communism but who forgot to take the steps they pledged in this regard.
