Panaite Chenciu şi şcoala bârlădeană la sfârşitul secolului al XIX-lea. 175 de ani de la naştere

  • Subiect: Panaite Chenciu and the educational system in Bârlad at the end of the XIXth century In the intellectual constellation of Bârlad, an honorary place belongs to Panaite Chenciu. He was born on the 23rd of July 1837 at Bârlad, where he attended the elementary school and then the high school. He also studied at Academia Mihăileană in Iaşi. In March 1859 he became a history and French teacher at "Gheorghe Roşea Codreanu" middle school in Bârlad. For 34 years he taught history with a passion that turned his calling into a way of expressing the high moral virtues in the fight for justice, unity and independence. Alongside Ioan Popescu, he will make a name for himself in the context of the great cultural and political moments of Bârlad: the founding of the first print shop and the first newspaper- "Semănătorul" (1870) - the elevation of the new building for the "Gheorghe Roşea Codreanu" High School (1886), where he worked many years for free. Also, as a representative in the Parliament, he acted supporting the vision for a modernized educational system. He was gratified for his accomplishments with medals and orders from the state. Panaite Chenciu continues to be a model of honesty and fairness and for defending the values of the Romanian nation.
