Eminescu şi „Chestiunea Dunării”

  • Subiect: The Danube River had a determining role in the historical evolution of the Romanian people. Through this 'open-to-humanity' gate, the Romanian territory has been permanently integrated into a certain geo-political and economic setting. Among those who have worked on the long and winding process of negotiations regarding the navigation on the Danube, according to the Berlin Treaty (1878), article 55 and 57, there is also Mihai Eminescu. This issue has concemed him to such an extent that, after the Berlin Treaty (1878), most of his drives and ideas had this topic as a starting point. In the last years of journalism, Eminescu has provided a true crisis point regarding the Danube issue, by revealing to the public the duplicitous attitudes of the great political powers, the purposefully driven turmoil of the relations among the states in the Balkans, secret agreements, imposing attempts of the Austro-Hungarian protectorate over the newly formed states around the Danube, under the pretext of pacifying, religious, humanitarian and cultural actions, and others. Through the analysis of the important international events, Eminescu has deciphered the intent and mutations which occurred in the attitude of the great powers towards Romania - namely - the contexts and the causes and he suggested that the Romanian political decision factors should promote a flexible and realistic policy, which would always be proper for the national interests, and would take into consideration the constant and variable elements of the relations between the great powers, as well as the risks of the biased or hazardous attitudes.
