  • Subiect: St. Nicholas Church -Royal Court", built between 1491-1492 by Stephen the Great and rebuilt in the late nineteenth century (between 1890-1904) by the French architect Andre Lecompte Nouy is the oldest religious edifice preserved in Iasi. Being located close to the old royal Court and due to the fact that almost every ruter of Moldavia was appointed here, from Despot Voda to Alexandru Ioan Cuza, St. Nicholas church was named Royal. St. Nicholas Church-Royal Court ranges among city churches built by Stephen the Great in a characteristic style, with a much broadened narthex compared to the nave, to house more believers. The church is among the most beautiful and representative sanctuaries that were built in that age of great flourishing of the Moldavian style. Nowadays, St. Nicholas Church, The Royal Chapel functions as metropolitan church, being entrusted for administration to the monastery of The Three Hierarchs,on Sundays and on holidays the Divine Liturgy being served here, often with hierarchical participation. Located in the heart of the old town, on the Royal Lane (now Stephen the Great Boulevard ), The Three Hierarchs church monastery was built between 1637-1639 and consecrated on May 6, 1639 by the Metropolitan Barlaam of Moldavia. The church resembled the plans of Galata church, (1584), defining a second phase of the national architecture. The founder of this unique monument was the faithful prince of Moldavia, Vasile Lupu, one of the most important figures in Romanian history, acknowledged defender of the Orthodox Church During the first years of his reign, when the Patriarchate of Constantinople was in a critical condition - crushed by debt, dominated by intrigue and hit by riots - Vasile Lupu interfered and tried to restore things, also paying later the Holy Sepulchre and the debt of the monasteries on Mount Athos and making donations as an initiator of numerous works of Christian Orthodox religion and charity in Poland, Bulgaria and Greece.
