Precizări asupra evoluţiei târgului Vaslui

  • Subiect: This study presents information concerning the age and demographic evolution of Vaslui town. Taking into account the preserved documents, it turns out that the historic beginnings of this town cannot be previous to 1435. Recent researches point out also the special part played by Vaslui during the Middle Ages, when it was one of the most important Moldavian rulers’ residences. The town’s coat of arms originates also in Middle Ages and its symbol – the fishes –, makes obvious the importance of being located on a commercial road. The demographic statistics point out the fact that this climax reached by Vaslui during the Middle Ages, preserved in an ascending trend until the middle of the 17th century, was achieved again only in the second part of the 19th century, after a long period of decline.
