Metodologia restaurării şi conservării lemnului policrom afectat de atac biologic

  • Subiect: Wood is an organic, hygroscopic material. Because it repeatedly takes and gives off water, in time wood suffers a series of deformations. As an organic material, wood is subjected to biological attacks (fungi and/or xylophagous insects). If a wooden object is painted or covered in a metallic coating, the degradation of the wood itself triggers the deterioration of other component elements as well (the base coat, the polychrome layer or the metallic coating). The conservation-restoration treatments therefore must take into consideration each type of degradation, as well as its causes.
