Timpul şi valenţele lui în Imperiul Bizantin

  • Subiect: Out of the human wish of measuring time and remembering important data regarding his life, the science called chronology came into being. Throughout history there have been several eras measuring years in keeping with a significant event in a people’s existence. After the christianization of the Roman Empire (313), time gets a new meaning, a religious one. The Byzantine Empire gets the name of Constantinople (Constantin cel Mare’s town) and becomes the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire. Time becomes the opportunity of reaching eternity and the liturgical year will encompass more holidays dedicated to Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary and the saints. In the Christian Church, every second in time becomes a Kairos, meaning a favorable time for redemption. The Byzantine era considers that there have been 5509 years since the creation of the world until Christ’s Birth.
