Elemente de ideologie politică la cronicarii moldoveni (secolele XVI-XVII)

  • Subiect: Considering that the medieval historiography remains dependant on the biblical conception according to which the appointment of throne successors was the exclusive prerogative of the divinity, the image of Byzantium as portrayed in the historiographical writings belonging to the XVIth and XVIIth centuries progresses from the mere stereotype of a Christian state fallen under the swords of the Ottoman forces to a more complex and nuanced Byzantine Empire, Christian par excellence, that makes its presence felt in the region. The collective memory of facts, personalities and aspects that form the history of Byzantium, even if sometimes distorted or even completely inaccurate, remains a fundamental element when trying to reconstruct the overall picture of the Byzantine state and civilisation. Other times, the content of texts depends a great deal upon the nature of historical sources, especially foreign ones (Bulgarian, Serbian, Polish, Western, and, above everything, the Byzantine documents), used as reference for documentation in order to elaborate written works. However, when one tries to restore the image of a state and of a political body in general, one must base their research for the most part on the aggregate of ideas of social and political nature that are characteristic, in this case, of the Romanian society and of the relationship between Romanians and Byzantium. Facilitated by the proliferation of knowledge regarding universal history, elements such as the continuity of the Byzantium after the fall of the ancient Roman Empire, the Florence Council or the Dominium Mundi are incorporated into progressively nuanced presentations. The ethnic political terminology highlights first and foremost the Christian and universal nature of this particular political body, a historical truth which is supported by phrases such as Christian emperor or „the emperor of Ţarigrad”. Towards the end of the VIIth century, the picture of Byzantium is closely related to the intensification of the Greek influence within the borders of the Romanian countries.
